The homestay parents are responsible for the student under their care. Proper care of the student is expected at all times. The legalities of having a student in your care are in loco parentis, i.e.: the same as being a parent with the care of your own children. Because you will have made a contract with Winglish.com Study Abroad Division, your duty is to inform us as soon as possible of any problems that may arise.

The student is to be treated as part of the family. The student is to be included in family outings and leisure activities unless prior arrangement with reasonable explanation is provided by homestay family. Cost regarding student¡¯s involvement in family activities will be reimbursed by Winglish.com, please keep your receipt for proper reimbursement process. The family should make an effort to include the student in the family¡¯s activities especially on weekends.

•  Orientation: When the Student first moves into your home, assist them with unpacking and when they are settled, provide an orientation to the Student of your home and the facilities it offers. Please ensure that all equipment a student may be using is functioning properly and not defective. Provide training to your Student in the safe and correct use of the equipment/facilities in your home. It is also advised to take your student for a walk in your neighborhood pointing out the differences in the houses, where the landmarks are and the outside appearance of your home to help prevent the Student becoming lost.

2. Accommodation: The student will be provided with a clean room, with a comfortable bed, wardrobe/cupboard, study desk, desk lamp, chair and fan/air-conditioning equipment in hot weather. The student must have access to bathroom/toilet facilities, together with the use of living areas, such as lounge, kitchen, dining room, and recreation area. The student's laundry will be done by the homestay family, otherwise as arranged between homestay student and homestay family prior to the homestay contract agreement.

3. Meals: The student will be provided with three meals a day (Breakfast, lunch, and dinner; this includes packed lunch), which are nutritious and varied. Also, please have snacks available when needed. On weekend, the student may go out to the restaurant on his own expense. As well, if the family will be unavailable at home for a meal, it is important to inform your student and provide alternative meal options.

4. Health: Should the student become ill, the homestay parents have the authority to seek necessary medical treatment in case of urgent emergency; the medical fee may be directed to winglish.com (fee payable is responsibility of student's biological parents). Homestay parents will notify Winglish.com if the student suffers from ill health or is involved in accident. If you have to pay for any doctor visits or medication, please keep receipts.

5. Safety : The Family should know the Student's whereabouts at all times. As well, inform your Student if you will be away for a meal. Warn the Student of dangers/cautions.

6. Family Absences : If the Family will be away from home during the Student's stay, the Family will make arrangements to ensure a responsible adult is left in charge to perform the expectations in this document. The student will not be left at home without any companionship from members of family.

7. Telephone: The Student is allowed to make an international phone calls only with his/her own prepaid phone cards. (No collect calls) The director of camp will give each student a card during the first week of the camp.

8. Chores/ House Rules : The Family will discuss with the Student the responsibility to keep his/her room clean and to share in general chores shared by Family members (for example, setting the dinner table, cleanup after eating). And we recommend that house rules be written clearly, discussed with and given to the Student in order to ensure a mutual understanding of meal times, bedtimes, laundry schedules, deadline times for incoming phone calls in the evening, time limits for bathroom use, room housekeeping and other household chores shared by the Family, etc. Please discuss consequences in advance for non-compliance.

9. Transportation

[Monday ~Friday]: Arrange for transportation to and from school for the Student from Monday to Friday. The Family is responsible for dropping a student off at school and picking a student up on time.

[Saturday]: The Family has to drop off and pick up the Student for Win-Camp Saturday Activities. Students must never be allowed to cross streets or walk to and from school without alone. They are not allowed to use public transportation alone.

[Exception (Personal Tutoring)]: If students have extra personal classes, the Family is responsible for dropping them off at the place to study and picking them up. Students are not allowed to use public transportation alone.

11. Moving : If the Student is not satisfied with his/her host family, he/she can request for an exchange with another family from Win-Camp.

12. Language : Speak only English when the Student is present, and encourage your Student to also speak only English in your Family's presence .

13. Korean Student: The Family will not house more than one Korean student at one time.

14. Communication : To promptly notify the homestay program of any changes in the home that may affect the student, such as: illness or a change in household members (i.e. children leaving, parents separating, long term guests staying or students placed by other institutions, change of contact details). Also, Homestay families MUST report immediately any inappropriate behaviour by the student including smoking, drinking alcohol, possession or use of illegal drugs. The Family will contact Winnie (Dong Hee Kim) , the director of Study Abroad Division immediately if difficulties arise . The director will work with the Family and the Student to resolve any issues that may arise .
